On September 25th, Sitecore had an event for partners giving us a preview of the roadmap before Symposium. One of the exciting things for me that they announced was a Marketplace; where partners can publish solutions for other Sitecore users to use in their projects.
One thing I’m really looking for is what kind of governance the marketplace will have. Will it be a free for all where anyone can upload anything or will there be approval processes. I think having some governance is a must to keep the marketplace clean of rubbish. I also would like to know if there will be guidance on building solutions for the marketplace. I have tried to have a library of components/modules in the past and I always found the process of packaging and installing very clunky. Most of the time I ended up copying and pasting code from one repo to another. I am hoping the new marketplace will have guidance on how to build and package code so it can be used easily from project to project.
I am really hopeful the market place will be a place where Sitecore partners and developers can contribute to the Sitecore community. Sure, there are blog posts, git reops etc., but how awesome would it be to create novel solutions and have your solutions implemented and recognized by other Sitecore practitioners.
As we await more details about the Sitecore Marketplace, there’s a lot of excitement about its potential to enhance collaboration and innovation within the Sitecore community. By providing clear governance and guidance, this platform could become a go-to resource for partners and developers to share, discover, and implement valuable solutions. I look forward to seeing how this initiative evolves and hope it becomes a thriving hub for sharing best practices and driving innovation across Sitecore projects.
